When it comes to remodeling your kitchen, there are two major decisions you’ll have to make: the type of backsplash, and the type of countertops. In order for your kitchen to come out of this remodel looking better (not worse) than it did before, you need to make sure that your backsplash and countertop match. In order to do that, there are three different approaches you can take:
Select the countertop first
Instead of trying to choose your countertop and backsplash at the same time, start with one and match the other to it. Since your countertop is the centerpiece of your kitchen, choosing that before your backsplash is probably easiest. To start, figure out the type of countertop material first, and then go on to decide on the color/pattern.
Select the backsplash first
There’s no rule saying you have to choose your countertops first. If you find a certain backsplash that you just love, then go ahead and buy it, and then match the countertop to that backsplash. Choosing the backsplash first will also help you narrow down on countertop options if you’re struggling to make that decision.
Use the same material for both
The quick and simple solution to matching your backsplash and countertop is making them match completely—that is, using the same material for both. This could also be a cost-effective choice, as you can use left-over material from your countertops for your backsplash. Just be sure to examine the whole slab carefully, as there may be one section that you’d prefer on the walls, and another on the counters.
Before you get to matching your backsplash and countertop, though, you need to make sure you’re buying the material from the right place. At MC Granite Countertops, we offer a wide variety of countertop and backsplash options. Look through our inventory or contact us for more information.
