While marble countertops are an extremely popular option these days for kitchens, bathrooms and other spaces, many people are unfamiliar with the different types of marble that are available.
With so many colors and veining options available for marble countertops, it may be surprising to know that there are five main types of marble to choose from.
In this blog, we will discuss each in detail to hopefully aid in your decision when making a countertop purchase in the near future.
Carrara Marble
When someone says “marble,” this is the kind that most people imagine. Carrara comes in several unique designs but is usually stark white or white with gray veining.
This is by far the most common type of marble, regularly used for sculptures and marble buildings, and is surprisingly the least expensive of these five.
Calacatta Marble
Often mistaken for carrara marble, calacatta also has a white coloring with gray veining, however, it has slightly darker, thicker veining. Calacatta marble can also come in gold and is considered a luxury stone.
Crema Marfil Marble
Often coming in a light-beige or yellow, crema marfil is typically used with darker stones. It has an irregular pattern and varying veining intensity that gives it a unique appearance that’s sure to spice up any room you place it in.
Emperador Marble
Emperador marble can vary from whites to grays to browns. Brown emperador marble is typically accompanied by stark white or gray veining, creating a beautiful contrast. Due to its color, emperador goes great in rooms with gold or brass furniture.
Statuary Marble
Statuary marble typically comes in light gray and has darker, large veining. It is said to have the most dramatic veining of any type of marble and also offers a shiny, glossy, and reflective surface.
